Meet Tony Dunkerley

Tony is an international law enforcement advisor and private industry trainer on modern slavery.

Over his time as a UK Police Detective and Covert Intelligence Officer, Tony gained extensive experience in managing serious and organized crime investigations at national and international level, as well as writing human trafficking and HUMINT collection policies for law enforcement in the UK and oversees territories. His practical experience of investigating international human trafficking cases helped direct his MSc dissertation in International Criminal Justice, for which he received a distinction and was published in the International Journal of Police Practice and Research – a publication he now regularly assists as a reviewer for modern slavery manuscripts.

On leaving the police, Tony entered the private sector as an independent consultant and went on to establish the first Work and Social Responsibility Program for youth offenders on the Dutch constituent island of Sint Maarten, as well as designing and delivering investigation and covert intelligence courses to the criminal justice sector of Anguilla.

On returning to the UK, Tony lectured in criminal justice systems, contemporary terrorism and research methodologies at the University of Portsmouth, Institute of Criminal Justice Studies.

In 2017 Tony went on to establish Illustro Consultancy Ltd, an international training, research support and educational service to prevent, identify and deal with modern slavery and human trafficking. Tony has gone on to train global managers of multi billion-dollar companies to help prevent forced labour infiltrating their supply chains.

His work with Illustro was recognized in 2018 when he was included in the Global Top 100 Corporate Social Responsibility Influencer’s List and nominated as a UK Top 100 Modern Slavery Influencer.

Tony continues to enjoy his independent work with the criminal justice sector, including consulting on dark web and cryptocurrency cases, and training anti-trafficking detectives, witness protection agents, counter terrorism officers and border officials on behalf of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

Tony enjoys raising awareness of modern slavery and is a regularly presenter and panel member at national and international conferences, as well Illustro being behind the #Letstalkmodernslavery campaign to highlight human trafficking in the UK and deliver free school workshops on human trafficking and online safety.
